A Cyber Security Workshop was conducted by IEEE Computer Society SCTSB in collaboration with IEEE Computer Society Kerala Section on 14th July 2018 at Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering, Pappanamcode, Trivandrum. The hands-on workshop was handled by Mr. Nandu R, Associate Partner at Ciber Digita Consultants LLP, Thiruvananthapuram.
The one-day workshop, handled by Mr. Nandu, started with introduction on Infosec professionals, offensive strategy and defensive strategy. Then we had a hands-on session on two tools that play significant role in cyber security. First, we had NMAP, a utility used for network discovery and security auditing. Next, we had Burp suite, an integrated platform famous as Swiss Army knife for performing security testing of web applications. He also brushed up on two security vulnerabilities Spectre and Meltdown. Also, there was a demonstration of various tools available on Kali Linux which geared towards various information security tasks, such as Penetration Testing, Security research, Computer Forensics and Reverse Engineering. There was a discussion on malware analysis and digital forensics. The session ended with significance of cyber security and various opportunities the students can explore in the field of cyber security. He also gave awareness about various certifications like CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker) and OSCP (Offensive Security Certified Professional). We had a feedback session and vote of thanks following which Dr Soniya B, Advisor IEEE CS SCTSB, presented a token of appreciation to the speaker, Mr. Nandu. The session ended on a cheerful note and all the participants gathered up to take a group photo.
